When it comes to selecting a mid-range phone, the options can be quite straightforward. If you’re after the best screen, you’d probably go for a Samsung. But, if the camera is your top priority, a Google Pixel would be your choice. This year, the decision is even simpler: go for the Google Pixel 7A.

What Makes the Google Pixel 7A Stand Out?

The Google Pixel 7A brings along several important upgrades. The most significant of these is the brighter, smoother-scrolling 90Hz screen. This feature might not compete with the Galaxy A54 5G’s 120Hz display, but it’s far from mediocre. The improved quality of the screen is a major upgrade for the Pixel A device.

Key Specifications of the Google Pixel 7A

Similar to the Pixel 6A, the 7A features a 6.1-inch OLED panel, an IP67 rating for robust dust and water resistance, and Google’s custom Tensor G2 chipset. It’s backed up by three years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. Plus, the 7A introduces wireless charging – a first for a Pixel A phone – along with more RAM to support the powerful chipset.

Design and Build Quality

The 7A is slightly bigger than the Pixel 6A, though they both have 6.1-inch screens. The 7A, however, boasts thicker bezels, a sturdy aluminum frame, a Gorilla Glass 3 panel on the front, and composite plastic on the back. It also has an IP67 rating, which means it can withstand dust and some water immersion.

Performance and Battery Life

With a 4,385mAh battery, Google claims the 7A can last up to 72 hours on a single charge in Extreme Battery Saver mode. In daily use, with the screen refresh rate set to 90Hz and always-on display turned on, the battery life is fairly average. If you’re a heavy user, a late-day recharge might be necessary.

Camera and Image Quality

The Pixel 7A sports a new 64-megapixel main rear camera with optical image stabilization. This phone may have the best camera system you can buy on a $500 phone. Despite its few weak points, the Pixel 7A consistently takes good photos in various lighting conditions.

The Google Pixel 7A is the best mid-range Android phone available, period. With its improved screen quality, impressive camera system, and serious upgrades like wireless charging, the Pixel 7A offers fantastic value for its price.
